The past is the present, and the present is the future. It is estimated that the oldest stars in the Milky Way are nearly as old as the Universe itself. What we are looking at is just what it was in the past. And we will never see what it actually looks like in the present time. It doesn't matter. We love our galaxy. And it'll be around for another 13 billion plus years even after no one else is around to witness what it'll look like.
